Specis classification in whoinverse

  • Dec. 14th, 2009 at 8:57 AM
I saw this once on the dr who wiki but evidently I can't generate the correct search terminology to find it again:

Evidently the larger whoinverse has a throwaway background that the larger galactic civilizations classify species in categories 1-5. I *think* 5 was the lowest and humans were either 5 or 4 Cateogry (maybe it was classification? as in 'Class 5 species).

Gallifreyans and Daleks were either 3 or 2 because they could travel freely in time.

The system was based mostly on the ability of the species to percive and manipulate time and since humans live almost entirely on linear time, they were in the lower end of the system.

Anyone know what I'm talking about? Am I making this up and if not, where can I find the explanation?

Anticipating Christmas...

  • Dec. 14th, 2009 at 10:53 AM

From Livejournal Writer's Block: What is the most emotionally challenging aspect of the holidays for you? Do you enjoy this season more or less than you did as a child?

I think the most emotionally charged part for me is the anticipation of Christmas in early December: planning the presents, putting up the tree and decorations, thinking about special food. Transforming my environment - and seeing the city around me transformed - into something full of bright lights and excitement. All this while the weather changes: suddenly it's dark outside most of the time, and the world is white. Everything changes. By January, the cold and snow is old history, just something to put up with. But for a while in December, it's magical.

I don't think I could love it more than I did as a child, but I don't love it less.

When I was at [info]commodorified's part a couple of weeks ago, a friend came in and said, "Other people are looking forward to Christmas. I'm looking forward to the Doctor Who special." That's a friend after my own hear, and that's an added bonus to Christmas I didn't have as a child.

Pairings: n/a
Characters: Rodageitmososa (OC), The Master
Synopsis: Roda listened to The Master's troubles, and so he offers her a form of revenge not resulting in her death...

Heart of the TARDIS - Part IXX

  • Dec. 14th, 2009 at 8:13 AM
Title: The Heart of the TARDIS

Charaters
Mostly 10 (but all 11 Doctors do get represented), TARDIS (Cridhe), Jack, Martha. Sarah Jane Smith, Mickey Smith, Davros

Summary:
The TARDIS finds a new way to communicate with the Doctor - and everyone else. But her greatest discovery might lead to her biggest disaster.

Warnings:
angst, I'd rate this as "teen" due to some graphic descriptions of injuries and mentions of "adult themes." Spoilers: Doctor Who through Waters of Mars, Torchwood through Children of Earth Day 5, Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith

A/N:
Please note that I only count what has aired on telly as canon (IE: Books, Radio Plays, Who Cartoons, deleted scenes etc. I don't count as canon. Blame it on the fact that I'm in the US and just didn't have the same access to the Whoniverse growing up.)

Disclaimer:
The BBC owns DOCTOR WHO, TORCHWOOD, SARAH JANE ADVENTURES and associated known characters/images. I own Cridhe as well as unrecognizable places, situations and experiences. I've done this for pure enjoyment, but should the beeb ever want them, I'd not be opposed to royalties.

Chapter One

The Ghost of Christmas Past (1/1)

  • Dec. 13th, 2009 at 7:07 PM
Title: The Ghost of Christmas Past (1/1)
Author: [info]sw_drabbles ([info]stormwolf10 's alt account)
Rating: G
Character/Pairing: Ten, Rose, Charley
Summary: The Doctor takes a trip through his own time line to have a peek at Christmases gone by, and encounters a TARDIS-created ghost of Christmas past to give him comfort and company for the night.
Disclamer: I don't own Doctor Who, or any of the canon characters, sadly.
Author's Note: This is set right before The Next Doctor.

For those not familiar with the Big Finish audios, Charlotte "Charley" Pollard was a companion of the Eighth Doctor, played by Paul McGann. Over the course of their adventures, the two of them had fallen in love. Awesomely enough, thanks to audio not allowing their love to be expressed merely in facial expressions and body language, the writers had to have them actually verbalize their feelings. And so, Charley is one companion that got to directly hear from his lips that he loved her. "I love Charley. I don't quite know what that means. I don't know if it's strength, or weakness, or insanity, but I love her." --Eighth Doctor, Scherzo.

December 24, 1869

The crunch of snow beneath his feet as he stepped out of the TARDIS made him pause and look down at the impression his trainer had made. The Doctor smiled wistfully at it, remembering another, smaller boot print in the snow from years gone by. Four years, more or less. . .had it already been so long?

10th Doctor Scarf w/ Vertical Stripes!

  • Dec. 14th, 2009 at 1:13 AM
I'd like to start off by saying that I did not make this scarf. I lack the skills for it by far. The far more skilled [info]10_point_5 made it for me as part of an auction for charity. It took awhile to get but... it amazed me so much that I asked her to post it or to met me post about iut. Not being a member of this group, she told met details and let me share the details here.

She figured out vertical stripes!

I have some pictures below the cut as well as her description of her process!

It's really impressive! )

Excuse me while I still squee over how cute this all is.

Shakespeare, sociability, and Doctor Who...

  • Dec. 13th, 2009 at 11:23 PM

Had a lovely day, a very sociable day.

Around 9.30 a.m., Lynne visited me to go over one or two weight-training exercises she'd given me, that I'd forgotten. She's planning to do more walking; she says her aerobic walks with the dog have turned into mere saunters now the dog is aging, so she plans to do more real winter walking. I was impressed. I'd like to do the same.

But not today. I went to [info]lunacy_gal's place for brunch with [info]maaseru and [info]josanpq, to see her newly renovated kitchen. A good time was had by all, especially when [info]josanpq treated us to a talk she'd given her students about the Great Wall of Hull, erected during the war between the Marquis of Aylmer and the Duke of Gatineau. With pictures. Well, hadn't we always wondered where the Great Wall of Hull came from?

Besides that bit of history, [info]lunacy_gal gave me a Christmas present: a jigsaw puzzle that has a picture of Shakespeare at the Globe surrounded by most of his most famous characters. Except I can't find Hamlet. And I'm not sure who is peeking out of the casket/coffin/thing, unless maybe it's Bassanio. There are four cross-dressing women and I could only think of three (Rosalind, Portia and Viola) so I looked it up and it must be Jessica. Jessica! I'd forgotten she dressed as a boy.

The books [info]josanpq found for me look wonderful and I will no doubt be talking about them when I read them.

By the time we left [info]lunacy_gal's place, it was snowing hard. I came home and made dinner: chicken baked in sour cream and dill with rice and salad. Marion and Vicky came over to watch Doctor Who: The Waters of Mars, and Marion told us about the Doctor Who convention she recently went to in Chicago. [info]maaseru and [info]explodedteabag joined us for supper.

I fear I have exceeded my daily calories. Ahh, the joys of Christmastime.
